The Wood-Fired Cob Oven

Before launching into larger projects, I decided to construct a cob oven. I felt the oven would give me some great experience working with cob, which will come in handy when constructing other aspects of NottaLottaWatta (like a rocket-mass heater!) The prospect of making our own wood-fired pizza on site was a big motivator, too!

The first step was to locate the foundation, just below and to the west of the timber frame. A trio of great friends- Matt, Chris and Dave, helped dig the hole, about five feet in diameter and four feet deep. Dave, I will always be grateful for your insistence that we make the hole wider. You were right!
