Big Resolutions for a New Year
Today the wind, freezing rain and the snow all conspired to keep us home, and the studio plans are waiting to spring to life when winter thaws. The resolution (big hope) for this new year is to obtain the building permit for the studio, begin the excavation, install the foundation and complete the framing. With a tight roof in place, we can begin the cordwood masonry construction in the spring of 2019.
I'm chompin' at the bit to line up the excavator and the concrete guy, but have decided it is best to wait until the building permit comes through, which hinges on the great state of Wisconsin to green light the septic permit. So, while I wait, I am throwing some pots, hoping to have enough to fire the kiln a couple of times over once spring arrives.
Of course, there's still a teaching job and a family to occupy my time, so the pottery gets made when there are not other chores to do. From time to time my wife and I dust off the plans, fire up Pinterest, and dream about different aspects of the living space we hope to create in the woods. It has been a slow, deliberate process for many reasons, and I think our patience is about to pay off.
